Top Florida beaches? Take your pick

Caladesi_island With the sad news out of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, this week, we've got at least six weeks of winter to go.

Now's clearly the time to head to Florida.

Luckily, Fodors just posted a new beach guide to help pick your warm-weather escape. It divides Sunshine State shores into several categories.

For example, it lists the best beach for solitude and romance as Caladesi Island State Park. It's not the most surprising choice. Dr. Beach, Stephen P. Leatherman, named it as top in the nation last year.

But other categories get really interesting.

*The best beach for celebrity sightings is Lummus Park in always-hip South Beach. This is where you might find yourself sunbathing next to Lindsay Lohan, Jennifer Lopez, or Will Smith.

*The best for families: Clearwater Beach near Tampa Bay.

*The best for dogs: Jupiter Beach, in northern Palm Beach County.

*The best for diving: John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, Key Largo.

While none of these are really surprising, the author lists six other beaches for each category. It's great fodder for daydreaming (and trip planning) especially if there's snow blowing outside your window.

Pensacola Florida has one of the most beautiful beaches with sugary white sand and aqua green waters. People are friendly and the traffic low! Food is great.
