Man’s two best friends: beer and dogs are celebrated at a unique Oregon festival this month.
The Brewer’s Memorial Ale Fest, May 15-17, calls itself the largest dog-friendly beer festival in the world.
It includes the chance to sample more than 50 microbreweries, and since Oregon is the microbrew capital of the world, you know they’re going to be good. But the festival is canine friendly too. There’s dog musical chairs, which I can’t even imagine, a celebrity dog lookalike contest, dog dancing, dog Olympics, and a dog wash.
In fact a dog is the center of the whole celebration. It was created in memory of Rogue Brewmaster John Maier's dog Brewer. The lucky lab grew up in the brewery and eventually reached the rank of CEO of Rogue Ales.
The festival is held at the Rogue Ales Brewery in Newport, Oregon. Last year it attracted more than 3,000 humans and over 400 dogs. A $10 admission includes a souvenir mug and three taster tickets. Dogs get in free.
