Find of the Week: Outdoor Lighting

May 7, 2010 | By | Comments (4)

Now that the April showers—and most of the pollen—are
behind us, it’s time to head outside, curl up in a hammock or rocking chair,
and enjoy the sunshine from our beachfront porches. (Yes, I am taking a virtual
vacay from my desk as I write this!) No outdoor room is complete, however,
without great lighting…so check out our top picks below!

#1. Ode to the Bayou

French Quarter Yoke
Lantern
by Bevelo Gas and Electric Lights.
This lantern is so classically
French Quarter that I can hear jazz playing and taste crawfish just by looking
at it. Wouldn’t three look great lining a balcony or porch on a gulf coast
house? (In case you were wondering, I did choose this one not just for its good
looks but also because our hearts are with the folks who live on the gulf as
they begin to recover from the oil spill.)

#2. Classic Nautical

Pelham Moon Light in
hand-rubbed antique brass by Circa Lighting.
Nautical-chic is always a
great choice for a beach house and a pair of these guys, especially in that
brass finish, would add ship-shape style to any porch.

#3. Island Brights

Home_1

Wharf Lights by Urban Archaeology. Available in 180 colors, these super-durable pendant lights are
powder coated, which makes their finish less likely to chip or fade with time.
The finish is also better for the environment than paint since it emits no VOCs
(volatile organic compounds). All that color is sure to brighten up any outdoor
space.

#4. Laidback Lounging

Olivia Star Pendant from
Pottery Barn.
There’s just something about this Moravian star lantern that
says low-key porch gathering to me. I see it with a pair of hanging beds, a
soft rug, and a killer view.

#5. South Beach Chic.

Amax Outdoor Floor
Lamp
from Design Within Reach.
These giant, over-scaled outdoor floor lamps
look like they came straight from the pool deck of a South Beach art deco hotel
like the Delano. I love the clean lines and super-large shades!

I will definitely keep the Wharf Lights on my product list for clients because the look is great and the powder coating is perfect for South Florida outdoor living spaces.

Picked up Southern Living Feb, 2011 at the doctor’s office and fell in love with your makeover! Loved all that you did to the master bedroom. Would love to know the name of the fabric on the large pillow and canopy. Thanks

Lighting is not only functional, it is a statement to your personal style. Lighting can be a work of art and a focal point in a room. Great to see articles about lighting as something that is fun and stylish.
