You won’t find many sun-worshipers more apt to sing the praises of sunscreen than me—not to mention the rest of the Coastal Living staff. You’ve probably noticed different brands featured in our fashion and beauty pages, and you’re sure to find high-SPF bottles in our beach bags. After all, a love of the coast, sun, and sand brings responsibility with it. I look back none too fondly on vacations tainted by a painful sunburn.
But I do love the sun. And even though too much can be draining (and make me ravenous; what’s up with that?), I just feel better when I get some time outdoors. And I feel the best with waves serenading me in the background.
There’s something to that feeling. You might have heard talk about Vitamin D in the news and health publications lately. Doctors are realizing that a lot of us are deficient in Vitamin D, causing a wealth of possible problems, including cancer. Health magazine (like us, a brand of Time Inc.) addresses the issue, and offers advice for healthy sun exposure. Gwyneth Paltrow even devoted a recent blog post to the topic.
The whole conversation makes me feel a little less guilty about loving the sun. How about you? Do you feel more energized after a little time in the heat? How do you enjoy soaking up rays without going overboard?
