Each week, we’re bringing you tips, favorite products, and Q&As with the designers in our Coastal Living Designer Network.
Wellesley, Massachusetts-based designer Katie Rosenfeld is fearless when it comes to pattern and color, and that’s just one of the many reasons we love her bright, bold approach to design. Here, the daring designer shares her beach house go-tos, her quirky shopping habits, and why she’s sitting out the social media game these days.
CL: How would you describe your style?
KR: Eclectic, colorful, neo-traditional, whimsical and family-friendly.
CL: What’s your go-to statement-making front door paint color?
KR: That’s impossible to answer! It depends on the location of the home and the indoor palette. I like the door to refer to what’s inside. It’s a sneak peek.
CL: What are your beach house essentials?
KR: Indoor/outdoor fabric; texture, like rope, sisal, grasscloth, wicker; blankets, and tons of color!
CL: Favorite places to shop?
KR: That’s a dangerous question; I could find something to buy in a gas station. I love shopping vintage the most and love supporting small dealers all over, but especially in Tampa, where there is a plethora of amazing vintage shops along MacDill and Bay to Bay Avenues.
CL: Favorite hotels on the coast?
KR: I love the Loews Don CeSar in St. Petersburg, Florida, or any number of my friends’ homes on Cape Cod! And Airbnb!
CL: Favorite designers to follow on Instagram?
KR: I’m not active on social media anymore … I realize that may be a weird position. I would so much rather read a magazine and tear out the pages that inspire me and tack them up on the two huge boards in my studio so I can see them every day.
