Seahorses sound like an elaborate April Fool’s joke.
Their courtship dance can last three days. The males become pregnant and give birth. And the species includes potbelly and zebrasnouts. (Shown above, a larger-than-lifesize dwarf seashorse, which tops out at just 1 inch long).
You’ll learn this and much more at a new exhibit, The Secret Life of Seahorses, at the famed Monterey Bay Aquarium. The new $2.25-million display includes 15 species of sea horses. The exhibit opens April 6 and continues through September 2012.

Miami’s all about surf, sun, models and South Beach. So where does Madama Butterly and Mozart fit in?
The latter two are right at home at the new Adrienne Arsht Center, a stunning collection of concert halls in Miami, that taken as whole comprise one of the largest in the country.
I got a behind the scenes tour recently and soaked up the architectural details that make a project like this so exciting. Free tours are presented twice a week, every Monday and Saturday at noon.
The $472 million center was designed by Cesar Pelli, the man behind the Petronas twin tours in Malayasia, and other global monuments. I loved the art incorporated into the building from whimsical iron work on the balconies showing off Florida themes, to an elaborate glass mosaic by a late Cuban artist.

The aquarium’s offering a special spring break sleepover for families. The fun starts at 6 p.m., March 27, and wraps up 15 sleepy hours later at 9 a.m. Kids ages 7 and up are welcome. Fee: $50 for members, $55 for nonmembers.
